Please sit back as we take a deep dive into how poetry all started for Laura and her journey so far
Laura:
Writing has been this secret Love of mine since I was a teenager. But I was'nt old enough to understand why I would keep being drawn back to the pages. I have had Anorexia since I was 14, way more than half my life and so long that I struggle to remember who I was without it.
One day I picked up a pen, one of the support workers had suggested writing a diary, I soon got bored of that but found myself writing poems instead. Poems upon poems started falling like a Literary waterfall from my pen to paper. After feeling such hate for myself and not understanding anything I was feeling, a poem could make me sit back and feel a little spark of possibility that I was maybe good at it. I wanted to be vulnerable; I was desperate to communicate, I had been desperate for 23years for someone to hear Me. So I laid it all bare on through rhyme.
Slowly, but surely, through the power of words, I felt less alone. I have accepted I will always be emotionally more sensitive than some. I will cry in public when I get overwhelmed by normal life things. But I am here, learning new feelings and I am writing! As one of my poems go ' I have read a poem or two that has made me feel less alone, the power of vulnerability can give a lost mind a home'
I hope you all have enjoyed this beautiful insight into Laura's story and have taken inspiration from her doggedness and perseverance, all due to the love she has for poetry.
