'THUNDER' REVIEW
' THUNDER' REVIEW BY JOSEPH SPENCER
Thunder is a captivatingly good memoir about a certain period in the life pf author, Renaria.B, where she is faced with overwhelming and peculiar challenges and only her resilience and perseverance see her through the harrowing times. Thunder aims to shine a light on the prevalence of the sexual assault menace, with men as principal offenders no doubt, which has eaten deep into the fabric of society worldwide.
The setting of the book is in 1990's Canada and the use of imagery to capture the essence of the narration is top-notch and lexis and structure are also intentionally reminiscent of the time, as words like ' Porcelain' are bandied about by the author who authentically merges the old and the new in this amazing book.
Thunder is a story of survival and victory against all odds, especially the stigma of sexual assault and the subsequent battles faced in the aftermath of victory. The book is a hybrid of prose and poetry and has four Chapters in all. The second Chapter is specifically dedicated to poetic pieces all seamlessly linked with the story. Chapters 1 and 3 will close with a poetry excerpt that complements the mood. An excerpt from ' The Devil is a Stalker', appears immediately after the conclusion of Chapter 1. Chapter 3 has an excerpt from the piece ' Pretty Ugly Things' and the highly emotional, ' What is Love' micro poem starts off the epilogue on the best possible note.
CLOSING REMARKS.
Thunder has themes that everyone can relate to, from the author's struggles with mental health and sexual assault, to her doggedness and determination not to play victim, and take charge of her destiny, all achieved importantly on her own unique terms.
Thunder is a must read and I highly recommend it to all and sundry. It is exclusively available on Amazon.com.
